Sean,

Still nothing on Thomas about the House bill; guess we'll just have to wait until they input it into the system on Monday or Tuesday. Has there been any press releases on the House version yet?

Did they include Reservist and Guardsmen, or are we screwed there too?

It looks like you sniffed it out Shuman.  Screwed, abused, and tatooed.  Think of us like bleeding in the water and being told to swim away to keep the sharks over to us instead of the rest of the healthy crew.  Think of us being tripped up to slow down the chasers while they work on us first.  Honestly, no surprises here.  I voiced this thing happening a few times here.  Just based on how reservist are excluded from other benefits because of the active duty time requirements.

I have enjoyed reading your posts and feel like you do. But i think its time for me to move on as its getting a little late in life to worry about a medal i will never get. Born to early for the array of medals handed out today.I will watch your posts and maybe we can do something for our forgotten warriors.Im so frustrated i need to step back and weigh my options. Remember the Army creed no one is left behind.    Go army hooahh    Kaz

Go Army?  Forget that creed.  It's all about the Marine Corps today.  USMC BIRTHDAY.  Where is my cake?  NOV 10.  I was not ARMY.  I was USMC. It's my day today.

Cazman.  How old are you?  I feel the exact same way.  No time to wait around for a medal, its crazy.  I didn't really do jack in the military except get an honorable.  I'm moving on.  Don't care about it anymore.  Not to say that I'll leave this forum.  I'll be checking in here as usual.  You know how I got started on this?  Whenever I found the COLD WAR CERTIFICATE online when I was out on the islands working out in the Pacific.  I send away for the certificate and I got it, but somehow, down the line, I lost it.  I never re-applied for it because ......  Then I listened to guys here saying the certificate was an insult and we needed a medal to cover MILITARY ONLY and not just summer time postal workers, and that's when I jumped on board the forum, been in it for a long time.  Now I see its ever far from my reach so I give up on it, never really chased it, just checked on here to see how things were going with it.  That's it.

CAZMAN,
We still need you, buddy.  Need your push on our Senators and Reps in Pennsylvania.  Were you PA National Guard?  I'm still working on pushing a PA State Cold War Medal.  Presented a Foxfall Cold War Medal to some higher officials.

Jim thank you very much. But im weighing my options. My wife and i since her problems have a different view on life.Having been in politics as long as i have (elected official)and knowing the attention span of some politicians does not give me hope as to where i and others are concerned.Seenit happen to often on the local and state leval. They throw you a bone and hope you go away. Jim what part of Pa are you from E mail  me.  No i was not a PA Guardsman so a state medal would not help me unless it was all inclusive. If cost was an issue ill buy my own while we the government waste more money on issues i wont go into.      Thank you for your service    Will stay in touch   Kaz

While i was writing this i just noticed in my Pa newspaper A picture honoring veterens while the story next to it informs the readers that the veterens outreach center is closing due to state funding cutbacks. This country and commonwealth sure know how to honor veterens.Good luck with your pursuit of a state medal. After i calm down i would like to talk to you.          Kaz

KAZ,
I'm on the opposite corner of PA.  I'm stationed at Willow Grove Air Reserve Station.  Thank you for your service.  Medal or not, does not take away our victory or service.

Honoring Cold War Veterans on NPR Weekend America 12-27-08

MISSION

The American Cold War Veterans is a nonpartisan 501c nonprofit veterans service organization incorporated in the State of Florida and founded on August 18, 2007 at The Truman Library in Independence, MO. As a group we are dedicated to all of our Brother and Sister Veterans, with special dedication to those who served during the Cold War era September 1945 to December 1991. Our Mission is to bring respect, recognition and awareness to Veterans of the Cold War era no matter what branch of service, whether active duty, reserve or National Guard. We are committed to honoring the sacrifices made by millions of American men and women during the Cold War, especially those who paid the ultimate price of life or liberty. We intend to see that the Cold War's history is completely and accurately understood by people everywhere. We are united in these goals and speak with one voice.

NDAA 2002 - FACT

The NDAA 2002 was passed by congress October 2001 signed into Law Dec. 28 2001, In the NDAA that was approved by both houses, signed into law by the President, was the Sense of Congress to authorize the Campaign Medal for service in the Cold War.

NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2002

115 STAT. 1118 PUBLIC LAW 107–107—DEC. 28, 2001 Code, that the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to that individual is warranted and that a waiver of time restrictions prescribed by law for recommendation for such award is recommended.

SEC. 556. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON ISSUANCE OF CERTAIN MEDALS.
It is the sense of Congress that the Secretary of Defense should consider authorizing—

  1. the issuance of a campaign medal, to be known as the Korea Defense Service Medal, to each person who while a member of the Armed Forces served in the Republic of Korea, or the waters adjacent thereto, during the period beginning on July 28, 1954, and ending on such date thereafter as the Secretary considers appropriate;

  2. the issuance of a campaign medal, to be known as the Cold War Service Medal, to each person who while a member of the Armed Forces served satisfactorily on active duty during the Cold War; and

  3. the award of the Vietnam Service Medal to any member or former member of the Armed Forces who was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for participation in military operations designated as Operation Frequent Wind arising from the evacuation of Vietnam on April 29 and 30, 1975.

The Medal was not created! Why?

Were Cold War veterans casualties of the Iraq War planning?

We will continue to fight!
