May I send a link from the ACWV to another veterans group, so that they may read and learn more about what this group is about?

For the longest time I have been seeking a local veterans group, today I have found such a group. I gave them a call, what I found out was that they hope to have a Hall by the Fall of 2010. A one stop shop as it were, in which Veterans could/would meet to discuss Veterans issues.

As an example of those that would be under the same roof:

Veterans of Foreign Wars
American Legion Post
Blind Veterans Association
Chosin Few
Disabled American Veterans

Each group would have it's own by laws, it's own issues, it's own way of doing business. All under one roof. Instead of going here for this, then running across town for that, it would all be in one spot for the veteran and the veterans families.

Secondly:

May I have permission to start a chapter of the ACWV out here?

I will need the mission statement, the by-laws as well as a set of goals that we hope to attain.

William, We will check the group out and I will ask some questions myself of them.

I think the first step would be for you to join ACWV.

You can join through the membership site online. Http://www.membership-americancoldwarvets.org

My contact info is there.

Scott

That's a good idea.  I saw something similar years ago in Cooperstown NY.  They called it the VETERANS CLUB.  One stop shop club for all vets.  It makes sense.  More members sharing the cost of the building and canteen.  But common sense isn't the norm anymore.  I don't understand why more clubs don't do this.  Plus, it could be alot of fun.  VFW versus AMERICAN LEGION in shuffle boards or dart tournaments.  Polish vets versus Marine Corps league in pool.  Amvets versus ACWV's in ping pong.  Barbecues, charity drives ect.... I was just checking out the web site.  I see I could be a member of about three organizations in there.  How would my T-shirt look like?  Front... FRA.  Back... MCL...Hat...American Legion

But my question to you is this....why have a ACWV's affiliation when you have probably more than one group in there to join?  Unless of course, that would be the only way to get in the club.  I don't see AMVETS in there, so unless you were ARMY/AIR FORCE that served in years like 1975-1982 or prior to Vietnam but after Korea, which are few and far between now.  Fleet Reserve Association will take members that were prior USMC/CG and NAVY regardless of dates served with honorable.  Marine Corps League, had to be a Marine for 90 days with honorable service.  But what the hey....why not open up a ACWV's if you get the permission to do so?  Cool beans.  I envy your status of having a club in your place.  Wish we had something similar in Houston TX.

Honoring Cold War Veterans on NPR Weekend America 12-27-08

MISSION

The American Cold War Veterans is a nonpartisan 501c nonprofit veterans service organization incorporated in the State of Florida and founded on August 18, 2007 at The Truman Library in Independence, MO. As a group we are dedicated to all of our Brother and Sister Veterans, with special dedication to those who served during the Cold War era September 1945 to December 1991. Our Mission is to bring respect, recognition and awareness to Veterans of the Cold War era no matter what branch of service, whether active duty, reserve or National Guard. We are committed to honoring the sacrifices made by millions of American men and women during the Cold War, especially those who paid the ultimate price of life or liberty. We intend to see that the Cold War's history is completely and accurately understood by people everywhere. We are united in these goals and speak with one voice.

SEC. 556. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON ISSUANCE OF CERTAIN MEDALS.
It is the sense of Congress that the Secretary of Defense should consider authorizing—

The Medal was not created! Why?

Were Cold War veterans casualties of the Iraq War planning?

We will continue to fight!
