Here is my latest letter to all members of the Senate Armed Services Commitee. Fell free to use it, reword as you see fit, change the names etc..
Dear Senator Udall:
We at the American Cold War Veterans, Inc. salute you for your outstanding support for our military and our veterans. We thank you for your service to our country.
This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the seventeenth anniversary of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.
As you may know lives were lost, our planes were shot down, our ships and personnel attacked during the long hard struggle to contain Communism.
Many of the brave and dedicated men and women of this era served their tour of duty and received no medal or award of any kind.
We were doing the same types of jobs that today's military are doing.
Today's military receives the Global War on Terrorism, National Defense Service, Sea Service Ribbon, Overseas Duty Ribbon; and other awards that did not exist during the Cold War.
The Cold Warriors have been denied recognition, degraded, ignored; and told we are not real veterans.
As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee you have a golden opportunity to correct this wrong.
Will you introduce legislation to authorize a Cold War Service Medal? This would be a small way to honor and recognize all those who served honorably during the Cold War. Or would you be a cosponsor if such a bill is brought forth?
As the ranks of the Cold War Veteran shrink everyday, let this be the year to say Thank You from your country. The United States appreciates and honors you for your service.
I look forward to hearing any comments or questions you might have on this issue.
Regards,
Jerald Terwilliger National Vice Chairman American Cold War Veterans, Inc. "We Remember"
