I, like many cold war veterans recieved the AFEM which intitles me to many VA benefits. Many vets did not recieve any medals and are still entitled to some VA benefits. It is my feeling, that all that honerably served our country at any time. should recieve the same benefits. We had no control over starting a war with any one. We were still there to protect our country. I would be willing to pay for my own CWVM or CWSM. alltho, I feel I have already paid.

donnknow; once again I have to respond to your post. If I would want to read the stupid comments on newsvine and other political discussion boards ,I would go there and not on the ACWV forums. This is America, and you do have the right to voice your opinnion. Please do it on newsvine and not here Thank You.

DBMN; I have just read all your previous post. It appears to me that you are very critical of our leadership on this thread. If you know how to contact the SecDef and push our point across. then please take it upon yourself to do so.
Our leadership members are not on our payroll. they are volunters that are doing there best.  Harold;

I agree with the thought that we cold war vets, should not blame the congress declaired war time vets for not completly honering our service to there country. It is the american congress that is disrespecting our service, by not declaring the cold war  as war time. I feel all honeraby discharged veterans should be treated equally. We all signed papers, stateing we are prepared to die for our country. at any time. Just my feelings, right or wrong.

 Kolzion ;I want to welcome you to the ACWV discussion forum. And thank you for your service.  I belive you are refering to Lostexair's statement about the CWVA patches. the cwva is not the same org. as the acwv. Most of us used to belong to the cwva. We now belong to the acwv. So we are not likely to wear the cwva patches.

 Coldwarrior, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your service to our great country. I wish we had more members post their activities while in service.   I know I am not in the right thread for this.    Nov. 9th sounds great

 Coldwarrior;  I find this post very impressive. This is one of the reasons that I get very upset when I hear that I am a peace time veteran. I served 01/17/57 to 02/28/61 I was on patrol on a destroyer 58-59 59-60 during the tiwan crissis. I recived a good conduct, a NDSM, a AFEM with one bronze star. I am a peace time veteran?
                Keep up the good work Coldwarrior, and all you others on ACWV.

  Jim,  1 Agree with your comment on the bonuses and how the VA. does much good for us Veterans. I won"t comment on the government health care.  I'm just an old uneducated veteran that could not run our great country,that I love and are very proud to live in.    Harold;

Honoring Cold War Veterans on NPR Weekend America 12-27-08

MISSION

The American Cold War Veterans is a nonpartisan 501c nonprofit veterans service organization incorporated in the State of Florida and founded on August 18, 2007 at The Truman Library in Independence, MO. As a group we are dedicated to all of our Brother and Sister Veterans, with special dedication to those who served during the Cold War era September 1945 to December 1991. Our Mission is to bring respect, recognition and awareness to Veterans of the Cold War era no matter what branch of service, whether active duty, reserve or National Guard. We are committed to honoring the sacrifices made by millions of American men and women during the Cold War, especially those who paid the ultimate price of life or liberty. We intend to see that the Cold War's history is completely and accurately understood by people everywhere. We are united in these goals and speak with one voice.

SEC. 556. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON ISSUANCE OF CERTAIN MEDALS.
It is the sense of Congress that the Secretary of Defense should consider authorizing—

  1. the issuance of a campaign medal, to be known as the Korea Defense Service Medal, to each person who while a member of the Armed Forces served in the Republic of Korea, or the waters adjacent thereto, during the period beginning on July 28, 1954, and ending on such date thereafter as the Secretary considers appropriate;

  2. the issuance of a campaign medal, to be known as the Cold War Service Medal, to each person who while a member of the Armed Forces served satisfactorily on active duty during the Cold War; and

The Medal was not created! Why?

Were Cold War veterans casualties of the Iraq War planning?

We will continue to fight!
