Sean, I made a few changes.  "Creed" could also include communism, Naziism, etc.  So here is my latest version.  See what you think.

As a group we are dedicated to our all of our Brother and Sister Veterans, with special dedication to those who served during the Cold War era September 1945 to December 1991.

Our Mission is to bring respect, recognition and awareness to Veterans of the Cold War era no matter what branch of service, unit , or military occupation. We are committed to honoring the sacrifices made by millions of American men and women during the Cold War, especially those who paid the ultimate price of life or liberty.  We intend to see that the Cold War's history is completely and accurately understood by people everywhere.  We are united in these goals and speak with one voice.  If you believe in our mission please join us.

I think it needs a little more massaging before being adopted.  First, are we a Veteran Service Organization of just a Veteran Organization. Next, instead of the stuff after "no matter what branch of service", we include "including Reserve and National Guardsmen". Next, the very first line "We are the American Cold War Veterans." (period) New sentence, "A Veterans organization........." Is there a reason to say NEW. Down the road we will no longer be "new". Lastly, the very last sentence "If you beleive in our mission, please join us." is not something you see in a mission statement. Is that sentence needed or appropriate in a mission statement?

It all may seem like nitpicking but we only have one chance to get this right so lets take a few more days and see if anything else comes up.

With just a few changes, I would like to present the mission statement as I was trying to explain in the previous post. I am not a proffesor of the English language so if I am in error, it was / is with the best of intentions.

According to the Wisconsin 2007 POW Ballon Launch Site there are 124 POW's still unaccounted for from the Cold War. They also list the numbers from all of the different wars and Conflicts. You have to go quite a way down the page to get to the list, but it is quite amazing. I really feel that we should somehow include the POW/MIA issue as part of our mission too?

Sean,

As you know I work at the Truman Presidential Library. However, the phrase "Truman Library" has become a stumbling block to the uninformed. We know this is true because at least once a year we have someone come in and say... "Where are all the books???" (...thinking it's a 'public library'). So, my point is, I'm suggesting that our mission statement be changed from "Truman Library" to "Truman Presidential Library".

Thanks,

Hector Ed Autry, Founding Member

Sean or Frank, would it be possible to get an "official" version of the Mission Statement posted here as it stands now so we can see where we are at right now?

With all due respect to all branches, individuals and entities I would be pleased to see wording about intelligence operatives, both aAmerica and foreign born who fought against communism.

NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2002

115 STAT. 1118 PUBLIC LAW 107–107—DEC. 28, 2001 Code, that the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to that individual is warranted and that a waiver of time restrictions prescribed by law for recommendation for such award is recommended.

SEC. 556. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON ISSUANCE OF CERTAIN MEDALS.
It is the sense of Congress that the Secretary of Defense should consider authorizing—

  1. the issuance of a campaign medal, to be known as the Korea Defense Service Medal, to each person who while a member of the Armed Forces served in the Republic of Korea, or the waters adjacent thereto, during the period beginning on July 28, 1954, and ending on such date thereafter as the Secretary considers appropriate;

The Medal was not created! Why?

Were Cold War veterans casualties of the Iraq War planning?

We will continue to fight!
