Submarine Veterans' Memorial Highway Thoughts and on Comments on a Cold War memorial Highway let me hear from you. On August 28th last year the SVMH was extended I think it is time we we have a CWVH or Vcan be for veteran or Victory what do you guys think? OK I need to break out the old highway map.
U.S. Submarine Veterans' Memorial Highway designated for portion of Interstate 70 in Saline County. 227.346. The portion of interstate highway 70 between mile marker 69 in any county of the fourth classification with more than twenty-three thousand seven hundred but less than twenty-three thousand eight hundred inhabitants and east to mile marker 123 in any county of the first classification with more than one hundred thirty-five thousand four hundred but less than one hundred thirty-five thousand five hundred inhabitants, except where otherwise designated, shall be designated the "U.S. Submarine Veterans' Memorial Highway", and shall represent in its fifty-four-mile stretch the fifty-four submarines lost during war and the Cold War. PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- A 54-mile stretch of Interstate 70 that passes through the city of Columbia, Missouri, was officially named the ‘U.S. Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway,' Aug. 27. Art Randall, director of the Central Region of U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc., with the help of five other Missouri and Kansas submarine veteran organizations, witnessed the successful conclusion of the effort to obtain a section of I-70 that took more than a year-and-a-half to accomplish.“There were a couple of reasons why we wanted to have the 54-mile strip pass through Columbia," Randall said in an interview with the Columbia-Missourian newspaper. "USS Columbia, a state-of-the-art nuclear submarine, was one of them.” “We can never repay the men who have served this country in the name of freedom before us," said Fire Control Technician 2nd Class Jeremy Politte, a Columbia crew member and Missouri native. "In my humble opinion, these men completely deserve that stretch of highway, and all the respect we can muster.” Homeported in Pearl Harbor, Columbia was christened by now-New York Sen. Hillary Clinton in 1995. The attack submarine is one of the most versatile weapons platforms ever placed in the world's oceans.
