Instead of the American Defense Service Medal, why not fill in the "gaps" in the NDSM service periods?  This regardless of ( or in addition to) the Cold War Victory Medal? After all, did we not defend? My service period (USMC '79-84) falls into a "gap" where the NDSM isn't awarded.

Please review the topics under the Cold War Medal. On page 4 of 5, there was a lengthy discussion on the subject. It was interesting to re-read what we had to say. There are also several other discussions on the board about the NDSM.

We agreed that in principle, the NDSM should be awarded. We also agreed to not muddy the waters at this time while attempting to get the CWVM approved. We learned from others that going after one issue at a time gets better results.

Others have been proponents of reissuing the ADSM and it has it's merits but very, very unlikely. I have no doubt that our regulars will start chiming in.

Since there are numerous resolutions among the VSOs in support of the CWVM and no one supporting the NDSM, you can see we are better off taking care of job one. Once accomplished we can move on.
