Alright boys and girls, time to saddle up and get this party started.

The way I understand things, correct Me if I am wrong.

1) The Cold War dates are from Aug '45 until Dec '91

2) Those that "served" during the Cold War, would rather have a medal

3) The certificate can be gotten by anyone, from a front line troop to a seasonal postal carrier.

Looking at this from My stand point.

I served from '85 until '91. The only thing that happened while I was in the service was the Gulf War, which is covered by the South West Asia Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon,  and the National Defence Service Medal. While in, I was in training exercises "Team Spirit" and "Bear Hunt", held in Korea. Granted I was part of the military during the Cold War, but I saw no "action" from the USSR or it's allies. Now if I understand this correctly, the Cold War Medal should be awarded to those that actually were part of combat and or operations. Which would remove Me from getting such an award.

I have read here that people don't want a seasonal postal carrier to get the same thing as those that stood in harms way. I, myself have stated as such.

My question then is this.

Is the Cold War Medal for those that saw "action" or is it for those that were simply "ready" to go into "action"?

Cannon, the intent is for a medal for all who served. No different from the WWII Victory medal. Cooks at the stateside bases received the same Victory Medal as the Combat Infantryman who came ashore in Normandy and froze during the Battle of the Bulge. Everyone in uniform played a role in the final outcome, most without glory but all with honor.

For our non-military friends, every member of the Super Bowl team gets a ring, even if they never played one down all year.

Cold War enlistments made no guarantee of sunny beaches on the Riviera or a plush gig at NATO Headquarters. Their needs were met by men and women who had no say in their assignments or the outcome of that assignment. We all just did our job. At this point, myself and a host of other members could pontificate on the worthiness of our quest but that would be redundant. Suffice it to say, we earned it, we want it.
